The Jean life | How To Buy And Care For Your Jeans

Wearing: Next straight jeans, French Connection silk shirt, Next black heels, Shein Sunnies

Jeans are an important part of any wardrobe, especially mine, I don’t think a day goes by without seeing me wearing jeans. I remember some of my earliest pairs (even kept a pair I wore when I was 12 and a skater chick), same not as good as the recent updates I have now, but still, it’s amazing how versatile and timeless jeans really are! Easily dressing them down, or up,  jeans are the best staple in any undone and simple wardrobe. Over time, as I discovered which brands to invest my money into I also learnt to take more care of them, so here are a few points I’ve learnt along the way!

1. When shopping for jeans, depending on your figure and how you want your jeans to fit, go for a snug but comfortable fit. ALWAYS take the next size down and up into the change room just to make sure that you can try them on and compare fits. If you can get them on, even if you have to do some seriously wiggling, go for the smaller size, as jeans overtime, particularly stretchy pairs, loosen up.

2. DON’T WASH AFTER EVERY WEAR. Can’t stress this enough. Switch through your jeans to give them some air and wash only when needed, unless you really need to and you’ve stained.  If they are washed too often it’s going to lead to them wearing more quickly, losing shape and colour.

3. Wash, dry and iron inside out.  This will preserve them from detergents, sun and heat damage. I never iron my jeans, usually after every wash I  shake them out and let them air dry!

4. With dark coloured jeans, take particular consideration to the washing instructions, you may have to hand wash or change the temp of the water to make sure the dye doesn’t run. Usually, bellow 30c.

5. We don’t all possess ‘standard’ leg lengths, but luckily a lot of denim brands offer various lengths. If you’re petite like me, you have the upper hand to your taller friends (a perk at last!) as the ‘cropped’ variations will be closer to the length you need and you also have the extra fabric to take to a tailor if you really need to. Long-legged beauties, look for the ‘tall’ lengths or embrace the cropped look while it’s trending.

I would love to know any of your own tips when buying denim, your favourite brands or if you know of any brands that do lots of different leg lengths and cuts.
