The DOs & DON’TS of Traveling With a Partner for the First Time

It is said that travelling with someone for the first time reveals a lot about you as a person. You’re entirely immersed in another place, culture, and experience, which might bring out both your angels and devils.

Whether you’ve been waiting a long time to visit a specific location or you just want to relax and sleep on the beach (if one is close), it’s crucial to remember certain things when you’ve never travelled with someone before, especially your spouse. We wrote a rule book, if you will, on the dos and don’ts while travelling out of town for the first time with your sweet love.

The Dos:

COMPROMISE YOUR TOP PRIORITIES ON YOUR TO-DO LIST

It’s unavoidable that you’ll have some disagreements over where you want to go. Make a list of your top three discoverable spots and visit all six. This may vary based on the length of your journey, but you get the idea.

BE PATIENT WITH EACH OTHER

When you’re on a vacation and you’re starting to grow frustrated with the person you’re with, the statement “Patience is the key that fixes all problems” couldn’t be more accurate. Whether it’s their tiny peculiarities that are starting to irritate you or they’re being snappy, it’s important to realise that your moment of dissatisfaction with one another may usually be fixed with a good break.

TAKE PICTURES TOGETHER

Don’t be the person who refuses to take photographs. It’s a point in time that you’ll either treasure or despise… In any case, you won’t be sorry to have these memories saved someplace.

PARTICIPATE IN NEW ACTIVITIES

You travelled for a cause, so make the most of it. This is the ideal time to adopt a #FOMO attitude. You don’t want to go home feeling guilty about not accomplishing something.

COME UP WITH FUN EXPERIENCES ON THE TRIP

Don’t put the whole burden and obligation of finding entertaining things to do on the person you’re with. Before you go, do some homework and have a few surprises in store for you. You will not be sorry, and they will be grateful.

COVER THE BILL EVERY NOW AND THEN

This one might be hard, but if you can pay the bill once or twice throughout your vacation, go ahead and do it.

The Don’ts:

BE TOO STRICT IN YOUR SCHEDULING.

If your schedule changes, go with the flow.

DISCUSS TRIVIAL THINGS LIKE WHERE YOU’RE GOING TO EAT.

It’s not the end of the world; it’s just food.

MAKE THEM LATE BY TAKEN TOO LONG TO BE READY

Plan ahead of time if you’re renowned for taking a long time to get ready before leaving for the day. Get up a little early.

SAY NO TO NEW EXPERIENCES/ADVENTURES

Be willing to try new things. You could find that you appreciate it more than you anticipated.

OVERPACK

Don’t be the most disorganised person in the room.

BE REQUIRED

It’s just amusing to hear Ariana Grande sing the song.

COMPLAIN

But… but… no. This might be a deciding factor between two persons.

BE CONSTANTLY ON YOUR PHONE

Why did you bother taking the vacation if you’re going to be hooked to your phone (probably monitoring what’s going on back home…)? Sure, snap a lot of photos, but stay present. Be present in your surroundings and share your Instagram images when you’re laying in bed at night or when you arrive home.
