It feels like I’ve already been doing this for a lifetime. Even though it’s the first issue, I’ve been dreaming of this moment for such a long time, and now finally, you’re here and ready to throw yourself into this amazing Spring first issue! So thank you for being here.
On the eve of pressing ‘publish’ on my first digital publication, nothing can quite sum up the feeling I have right now. It’s probably because of this reason that I find this letter so hard to write. *draft 25*
How do you put into words something that you’ve been working on tirelessly for so long? Something you’ve been fixating over and that wakes you up at 5 am each morning, with the burning desire to create. Something I’ve put everything (even tears) into? What you’re about to read (and I hope to fall in love with) all stemmed from an idea that excited me the moment I thought about it. Six years ago, when I was about to start my first year of university, I found myself suddenly coming up with the idea of starting my own independent digital publication.
It was of course only a dream back then and I knew how much I needed to grow and learn to just even attempt to start such a thing. Maybe it was all that fresh university inspiration but, in that single moment, I knew with the most firm conviction, that this is what I was meant to do with my life (I blame the show Ugly Betty).
“HECK, I’D BE LYING IF I SAID IT WAS A WALK IN THE PARK”
That’s when Uptown Style blog was born, a smaller version of the dream was created, and here you are now. This is what all the hard work has produced, my loyal readers, we’ve finally done it, Uptown Style is now a magazine! But don’t worry, the blog will still be posting amazing content in between the quarterly issues.
I knew it wouldn’t be easy going at it alone and luckily I had a few amazing helping hands from some of the most special people in my life! Even then we knew there would be a lot of late nights, weekends and endless coffees! Heck, I’d be lying if I said any of it at all was a walk in the park. Although at the end (or beginning?) of this creative journey, I could not be more proud or more passionate about every single product, image and article within these 30-plus pages.
So here I am, proudly presenting to you the first of many issues of Uptown Style magazine! London’s first digital interactive publication dedicated to you! I believe there is something for every women and man in this magazine.
