It’s important always to try and start your day off right, especially when the weather dips; gosh London has gotten COLD! Whether you prefer showering in the morning or at night, you should always practice a skincare routine before going about your day and before bed. The products I use change from time to time due to how my skin feels – but I still keep the steps of my routine consistent to make sure my skin always gets the right treatment. If you’re looking to strengthen and refresh your skin for this new semi wintery session we’ve entered or if you’re learning to nail down your ideal skincare routine, keep on reading.
CLEANSER
Some may argue that washing your face in the morning isn’t always important, and sometimes it’s ok to give your skin a break but I personally like starting my day off by cleansing. Our skin can go through a lot at night, from being compressed against a pillow for hours and being prone to more dehydration than during the day. I use a gentle cleanser every morning to give myself that fresh feeling that I enjoy, and ensure that my skin feels cleansed. You’re also more than welcome to use the same cleanser in the morning and at night if you prefer, again you know what’s best for your skin as you are wearing it, so make sure you observe what your skin needs.
CLEANSING OIL
No matter the skin type, cleansing oil mixes with the preexisting oils already on your face, some of these oils can either be naturally produced sebum or those from makeup and other products. When you rinse it all off, the ‘good oil’ takes those ‘bad oils’ and dirt along with it. When massaged into the skin, oils in the cleanser bind to surface impurities [pulling out dirt without clogging pores] and allow them to be comfortably rinsed away leaving the skin clean, soft and hydrated. So, cleansing oil does not sink into your pores since it works to remove impurities and then gets washed away. Oil cleansers contain antioxidants and anti-ageing ingredients that also improve the texture and appearance of your skin.
MOISTURISER
To keep your skin soft and supple, you’ll want to find a daytime moisturiser that is ideal for your skin type. Moisturisers with Vitamin C are great for morning use because not only do they energise your skin, they also help brighten it. Be cautious of the ingredients, to make sure that your moisturiser targets your specific skin concerns.
FACIAL PADS
An essential part of your glow-getting skincare routine is an acid. Working to retextures and brighten your skin, acids renew and revitalise to reveal a luminous complexion. An innovative and refining treatment, that enhances the Dynamic Resurfacing routine, replacing the need for harsh exfoliators. Gently encourages the skin’s surface cell renewal cycle and prepares skin for optimum results from the rest of the range. Rejuvenates revitalises and smoothes while boosting radiance for a luminous complexion.
FACE OIL
If the molecular structure of an oil is too big, it can’t penetrate through the top layer of the skin. Lighter oils will sink into skin quickly without clogging the pores. You have to consider your skin type when purchasing a facial oil. Choose a facial oil where water is not the first ingredient. It’s important to note that both moisturiser and facial oil are equally important when it comes to maintaining a healthy, hydrated skin. The skin needs 70% water and 30% oil to maintain its balance. Neither a facial oil nor a moisturiser can deliver water. If they are used without a hydrator, they actually create a barrier against hydration which will cause the skin to break out.
TONER
If you’re not already using a toner in the morning, you should definitely consider it. A lot of people who don’t use toner likely don’t know what a toner actually is. To put it simply, the qualities in a toner hydrate and gently exfoliate your skin in one shot. So you can rid your skin of any dry patches, even your skin tone, and improve the texture all while packing in some moisture. See why it’s so essential now? Several toners cater to a variety of different skin concerns, so be on the lookout for one that would work best for you.
SPF
I can’t say it enough: sunscreen is fundamental! No matter what season it is, sunscreen is the key to keeping your skin both healthy and youthful. Trust me, UV rays are always present, and you don’t want them to mess with your skin. For days where the sun is extra powerful, you’ll want to use a direct sunscreen and not just a moisturiser infused with SPF. It’s best to apply a facial sun protectant all over your neck and décolleté and not only on your face for better results.
