If you’ve felt like you’ve been cooped up over the past two years and you’re itching to embark on a long-overdue summer getaway, you’re not alone. Millions of Brits are set to descend upon some of the world’s best travel destinations in what The National News is calling “revenge travel.”
Although now is the perfect time to go on holiday and get some sun, you may not feel entirely comfortable with the current climate so early after a global pandemic. If that’s the case then here’s some luxurious holiday experiences right here in the UK that may not be as busy as a trip to Spain during your summer holidays.
Ready to make summer 2022 the most memorable one yet? Below are a few exciting UK-based adventures you can explore.
Surf at Sennen Cove
Although you can head to practically any beach in the north of Cornwall and catch some waves, Sennen Cove has the added advantage of having golden beaches and clear waters similar to tropical islands. Steeped in Arthurian legend, Sennen Cove also has the ability to take you back through time. After you have a swim, why not sample some of the local ice cream and walk to Land’s End, England’s westernmost point, to catch the sunset? Now wouldn’t that be something to tell all your friends about?
Canoe the Wye
Why not try to canoeing along the length of the UK’s fifth-longest river the Ross-on-Wye and take in the breathtaking Herefordshire countryside? Boasting vineyards, butterfly zoos, a bustling town centre, not to mention the well-preserved Goodrich Castle, this picturesque market town is worth the effort that comes with canoeing on a hot summer’s day. To fully appreciate the River Wye’s reputation as the birthplace of British tourism, you can even rest up in a luxury cottage for the weekend if you book in advance.
Go kiting in East Sussex
The largest dune system in East Sussex — which was also featured in major films like 1958’s Dunkirk — is one of the best spots around to do some great kiting activities. Here, you can kiteboard, kitesurf, and even speed up to 50 miles an hour on the dunes using a kite buggy. The dunes are rarely disturbed by the wind, so it’s a great place to have a picnic or simply bask in the sun.
Cruise the seas
If you love spending your holiday adventures from a comfortable vantage point, Explora Journeys explains that going on a cruise is one of the best ways to see new places in all their glory. One cruise will even take you can see the historic Hadrian’s Wall in Newcastle, then on to Edinburgh Castle to watch the spectacular Royal Military Tattoo, and then disembark in Liverpool. You can even extend your trip to fascinating destinations like Iceland, France, and the Netherlands.
Camp in the Cairngorms
Maybe your ideal vacation involves embracing the great outdoors. If so, try Cairngorms National Park. You can bike or hike through its serene trails, watch the surrounding wildlife, and even stumble upon the park’s Secret Scottish Pyramid hidden in Scotland’s native pine forests. Afterwards, you can set up camp in a scenic location and enjoy a peaceful night away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
If you want to avoid crowds with this summer as you take your revenge holiday, you don’t have to go far from home. There are so many things to do and see here in the UK this summer — and who knows, you even may stumble upon your next big adventure?
