A firmer body and bouncier skin by Spring – is there a shortcut?
Uptown Style gets the inside track from Harley Street aesthetics specialist, Dr Joshua Van der Aa in issue 2 of Uptown Style Magazine article recently, and now we wanted to virtually sit down again and find out more about his 2021 non-surgical treatments picks!
Months in lockdown and repeated raids on the biscuit tin have left many of us with less than glowing skin and something of a wobbly middle.
And while this season has its perks: crisp winter walks and cosy fireside evenings, we can’t help but feel excited for the promise of Spring. In 2021, it will hold extra significance as we start making strides towards post-restriction living.
So if we’re planning to look fresher and fitter by then, perhaps an intensive tweakment or two will help us there in time.
Luckily, science has quite a number of solutions. So we asked aesthetics expert and celebrity favourite, Dr Joshua, to be our guide and pick out the best non-surgical treatments to have now…

“Winter is the best time to have it done because exposure to UV light is greatly reduced, so there’s less risk of complications compared to other times – it’s usually easier to fit in some downtime during January and February too; you’ll need a couple of days. “Optimal results take a few months to show, about four-to-six, and often follow-up treatments are required to achieve the desired result, so I’d advise booking in quite soon if you want to see benefits in Spring and Summer.
“It’s not just for the face. It can treat the eye area, jawline and neck as well as the abdomen.”

“It’s a device for contouring the body and shedding fat, fast. It uses electromagnetic energy to force 100 per cent of the muscle fibres in the treatment area to contract, equivalent to 20,000 crunches in half-an-hour! “It’s best if you’re in reasonable shape as it’s not a substitute for weight loss. But it will help kick-start your regime or help you through a plateau. It’s particularly great for polishing off at goal weight because of the extra abs definition it gives. “We’ll typically see a 19 per cent fat loss and 15 per cent increase in muscle mass, and because muscle burns fat, results are optimal at three months and will last a year or so: in other words, a great treatment to get done in the next couple of months to be looking at your best for Spring.

Tear Trough filler
“By delicately introducing small amounts of filler below the skin and muscle in the under eye area, we can improve light reflection, which reduces dark shadows and softens the groove or hollowness that often exists here. “In skilled, medically-qualified-hands, it’s an incredibly safe treatment to get done. “Filler is administered via a narrow blunt-tipped cannula to protect the blood vessels in the area and it takes only a few minutes to do. It makes a discernible difference to patients’ confidence and appearance – some stop wearing concealer altogether afterwards. Results last about a year.” Price: £350 for 1ml.
